The receipt faded. What to do

Thermal paper fades from heat and light, often before the two years are over. Photograph the receipt while the text can still be read, and keep a document that proves payment.
Why the text disappears
Most cash receipts are printed on thermal paper. Heat in a car, a pocket, or sunlight wipes the lines. The law does not extend the guarantee because of that, and it does not require the shop to keep a copy for you.
What else proves the purchase
The same as with a lost receipt: an invoice or a document proving payment under Article 43(4). A photo taken while the number, date, shop, and amount are readable shows what the paper said.
For a more expensive item, keep the original somewhere dark and dry as well. Some shops still want it for a claim.
When to photograph it
At the checkout, before you fold it. A photo of a blank receipt does not bring the lines back.
